UAE records surge in online shopping amid COVID-19
A total of 73% of UAE consumers has started to shop more online since the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to a Mastercard study.
The study referred that the e-commerce sector in the UAE has witnessed rapid growth since the start of the pandemic, as more shoppers have transformed their traditional payment methods to digital payment experiences.
The fast-moving consumer goods, healthcare, apparel, and banking sectors have seen the highest surge of online activity.
Over 73% of UAE consumers are shopping more online for groceries, 66% for clothing, and over 60% for medicine.
The Country Manager - UAE & Oman of Mastercard, Girish Nanda, said: "With constraints imposed on our daily lives due to COVID-19, consumers are adopting new shopping and payment habits at an accelerated pace."
Nanda added: "As this trend continues to evolve, Mastercard will continue to leverage its insights and technology, forging critical partnerships and driving innovation to ensure a solid foundation to deliver the future of payments in the UAE."
