Egypt allocates EGP 50 mln to boost digital transformation

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has allocated EGP 50 million from the public budget of FY 2020/2021 for the communication and information technology ministry to roll out the "Digital Egypt Builders“ initiative.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said, said on Thursday the move is based on the directives of the political leadership to boost the ICT and telecom sector, support the digital transformation strategy, and step up investments in the sector.

El-Said added that the total public investments appropriated for the sector in FY 2020/2021 budget amount to EGP 10 billion, a 300 percent growth compared to FY 2019/2020.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology launched the initiative in September to empower the next generation to implement Egypt's digital vision.

The initiative offers free scholarship for 1000 superior students annually from graduates of the engineering, computer and information, and electronics colleges.

The initiative will be implemented in collaboration with a number of international universities and companies specialised in ICT, telecom, language and leadership skills.

After the completion of the scholarship and graduation projects, students will be highly qualified to work in digital transformation projects, major Egyptian and global technology companies, or in the
