All travel corridors with UK suspended indefinitely

All travel corridors into the UK will be suspended from 4am on Monday, the Prime Minister has announced, saying "this is not the time for the slightest relaxation of our national resolve and our individual efforts" in the battle against Covid-19. At a Downing Street press conference, Boris Johnson said anyone who wishes to travel to the UK must have proof of a negative test in the previous 72 hours and will be required to quarantine for 10 days. Another 1,280 people have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus, taking the national death toll to 87,295, although the country's R rate is marginally down since last week. Despite graphs shown at the briefing indicating the average number of daily new cases is beginning to decline, Mr Johnson said: "It would be fatal if this sense of progress were allowed to breed any sense of complacency."

It comes as a leading scientist said one of the Brazilian variants of coronavirus has been detected in the UK.
