What the lockdown roadmap means for visiting my second home

On April 12, staycations in self-contained accommodation for individual households, so for example, cottage rentals, campsites or Airbnbs, will also be permitted. In addition, all non-essential shops will be allowed to open as will pubs and restaurants for outdoor drinking and dining and there will be no requirement to serve food with a drink.

Also on this date, the government will hope to be able to announce the easing of foreign travel bans in time to book summer holidays. But for now, the foreign travel ban remains in place and you cannot travel to the UK if you've been to or passed through any of the 33 'red list' countries (including UAE, South Africa and Portugal) unless you are a British or Irish national or have residence rights in the UK. And if you meet that criteria, you still have to self-isolate for 10 days in a managed quarantine hotel, at your own expense.

On May 17, hotels and B&Bs will be permitted to reopen, as will entertainment venues such as cinemas and theatres. Pubs and restaurants will also be permitted open indoors, although there must be table service.

On June 21, life will return to as close to normal as possible.
