Thousands of Vacationing Brits Face 10-Day Quarantine After Portugal’s Safe Travel List Removal
Britain removed Portugal from its list of COVID-safe travel destinations on Thursday, leaving thousands of U.K. residents currently on vacation with a 10-day quarantine on return, the Associated Press reported.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the decision was prompted by Portugal's rising COVID-19 rates and fears that a new variant could be vaccine-resistant. He said the mutation found in the variant first found in India was of particular concern.
The British government still plans to list coronavirus restrictions on June 21.
