EgyptAir suspends flights to Casablanca after Morocco’s suspension of flights with Egypt over pandemic

EgyptAir suspended its flights to Morocco's Casablanca "until further notice" starting Friday after an announcement by Moroccan authorities to temporarily suspend flights to and from both Egypt and Algeria to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

According to an official statement, EgyptAir has called on passengers who have booked flights to Casablanca to contact the airliner's call centre to modify their bookings.

Earlier this week, Morocco also suspended flights to and from 18 other countries, mainly the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and some others.

It has extended its state of emergency to combat COVID-19 for an additional month until April 10. A night curfew and other virus-related measures have also been extended for two weeks starting 2 March.

Morocco, which began its immunisation campaign at the end of January, has recorded 885,000 coronavirus infections since the outbreak last year, including 8,653 deaths.
