Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is set to inaugurate Sunday the third edition of the Smart Transportation and Logistics Fair and Forum for the Middle East and Africa (TransMEA 2020), according to a presidential statement. TransMEA 2020 comes as the country pushes ahead with expanding new smart cities and building modern transport systems aimed to upgrade road networks, reduce travel time, transportation costs and fuel consumption, Egypt's presidential spokesman said. He added that the country also seeks to boost trade exchange, reduce accident rates, and protect the environment. The event will be hosted at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in Cairo from 22-25 November, with the participation of a number of international companies working in the transport field. Around 8,500 road accidents took place in Egypt in 2018, down 23.6 percent from 11,098 in 2017, according to data by Egypt's official statistics agency CAPMAS.
