Middle East Airlines Record 90 Percent Decline in Summer Air Passenger Traffic

For August, North America (-70.8%), Latin America-Caribbean (-79.6%) and Africa (-82.5%) continue to post significant declines improving however by more than 10 percentage points compared to June 2020, said the Airports Council International (ACI) World in its latest traffic review.

Global passenger traffic declined by -75.1% in July and -69.4% in August compared to the corresponding months in 2019. The improvement in passenger traffic volumes from the depths of the crisis in the spring were mainly fuelled by the beginning of a recovery in some domestic passenger volumes.

Air freight has been less impacted by the adverse effect of the Covid-19 pandemic compared to the passenger market which reflects the crucial role the industry has played in alleviating the effects of the pandemic through the transport of goods, essential medicine, and equipment.
