OHRC leads team for training programme in The Hague

Muscat – The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) and a number of civil society organisations took part in a five-day introductory training programme on human rights in The Hague, a city on the North Sea coast of the western Netherlands, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Oman.

Through this programme, human right experts shared the experience of the Netherlands both at the national and international levels.

The participants exchanged experiences with the experts from the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights and learnt about the best practices of national institutions in the host country through collaborations with civil society organisations.

Participants also had the opportunity to understand the mechanism for integrating human rights concepts into the functioning of law enforcement agencies. The programme opened a window for the experts from the two countries to identify future areas of cooperation and knowledge exchange projects between organisations in the Netherlands and OHRC in relation to rights of children, and juvenile prison inmates through field visits.

This programme falls within the OHRC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its external role and benefit from the experiences of friendly countries in developing its work and responsibilities in society, in addition to strengthening partnerships with community institutions in assuming
