Saudi Arabian Airlines Director General elected to IATA Board of Governors

The General Assembly of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has elected Engineer Ibrahim bin Abdulrahman Al-Omar, Director General of Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia), to serve as a member of the IATA Board of Governors for a period of three years.The appointment was announced during the Association's 76th Annual General Meeting, which was held virtually in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam on November 24. The Board of Governors is IATA's highest executive authority and consists of 31 Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from the Association's airline members, in addition to IATA's CEO. The Board oversees the development of plans and strategies related to the world air transport industry, and sets IATA's general policies as well as those on security, safety, and environment affairs. It also follows up on the Advisory Councils' tasks emanating from the Board and is responsible for appointing IATA's CEO and other senior executives. Following his election, Engineer Ibrahim Al-Omar stated that he takes great pride in the trust granted to him by the members of IATA's General Assembly.
