Aviation Groups Push For Policies To Make Jet Fuel More Sustainable

One of the hardest sectors to decarbonise is aviation – the physics of flying mean that it is not possible to make a battery big enough to power an aircraft because it would be too heavy.

Hydrogen is one option, and it is being pursued by companies such as ZeroAvia. The industry has also been working for a number of years on producing more sustainable jet fuel, although progress has been slow and the amount available remains a tiny proportion of overall supply.

Action is needed, though, because aviation currently accounts for 3.6% of total greenhouse gas
