Fujairah Airport launches new runway as part of its expansion plans

Fujairah Airport has celebrated obtaining an operating licence from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for a new runway after meeting all local and international criteria and conditions for the runway’s operation.

According to Mr. Ismail Al Baloushi, Director-General of Fujairah Airport, the new runway underscores the airport’s strategic objective to improve and maintain its operations, in line with the highest international standards. This will increase its capacity to accommodate more aircraft and the project is ongoing and is running on realistic time frames.

The new runway has a length of 3,050 metres and a width of 45 metres. Further, it is equipped to the highest standards and has been certified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the GCAA in the UAE.

The runway was inaugurated by Sheikh Hamad bin Saleh Al Sharqi, who is the first pilot to use it. The new runway’s operation is a part of the airport’s development and expansion strategy, which will raise the UAE’s status in the civil aviation industry.
