Muscat – Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company (Nama) launched floating desalination plants last week at a cost of over RO6.6mn in Musandam.
In a statement, Nama claimed that the four mobile desalination plants are the first of the kind in the region.
According to the company, one of the most important features of floating desalination plants is that these carry out desalination, transportation and distribution operations simultaneously. ‘The plants employ the best international technology in reverse osmosis. Around 70 coastal villages will benefit from the service.’
The use of the floating, mobile water desalination plants by Nama will bring a significant change to the water supply and distribution system in the area to tackle water scarcity and boost the local economy.
The desalination plants will also promote investment in Oman by developing the water sector, supporting small and medium projects, and aiding the tourism sector.
