Food prices are soaring, some by as much as 300pc, as inflation rises at its fastest rate in 30 years. But more shocks lie ahead. Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England, has warned of “apocalyptic” food price rises. Wheat prices jumped by almost 6pc on Monday after India banned exports as a heatwave hit the country’s crops. This is expected to drive further price increases in British supermarkets: wheat prices will feed through to other foodstuffs such as eggs and chicken because wheat is used as feed, food suppliers have said. Which foods have gone up the most this year? Cooking oil has been among the goods to jump most in price: it has gone up by 18pc on average across all types, according to trolley.co.uk, a supermarket tracker. Prices of rapeseed oil and coconut oil have risen by more than 40pc while sunflower oil and vegetable oil have gone up by 39pc. Soaring prices Semi-skimmed milk is up by 15.3pc, or by 19p on average since May last year. Tesco organic milk has gone up by 39p and Asda’s organic semi-skimmed milk by 46p. Meanwhile pasta eaters will be forking out an extra 16.2pc compared with
