Global Crop Trust hails Kuwait’s food security enhancing efforts

BERLIN: The Global Crop Diversity Trust applauded Kuwait’s efforts to enhance world food security and sustainable development. The remarks were made during a meeting between the fund’s CEO Stefan Schmitz and Kuwaiti Ambassador to Germany Najeeb Al-Bader on Wednesday. According to a statement by Kuwait Embassy, Schmitz said that he and Al-Bader discussed boosting cooperation in sustainable agriculture and food security.

He added that he had invited Kuwait to take part in the Global Crop Diversity Summit 2023, to be held in Berlin on November 14. The summit will discuss supporting grain banks in the face of climate change and encouraging bio-diversity, the German official noted. On his part, Ambassador Al-Bader said that they discussed benefitting from the fund’s expertise in preserving vegetation resources in Kuwait, as the country faces the challenges of climate change, water scarcity, extreme heat and drought.

The Crop Trust is an non-profit international organization tasked with conserving crop diversity and making it available for use around the world. It was established in October 2004 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Bioversity International with the aim of supporting the sustainably and bio-diversity of crops. – KUNA
