97% of mesquite trees eradicated in Buraimi

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR) in Buraimi is actively engaged in the eradication of the invasive ghaf (mesquite) trees from across the governorateMuscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR) in Buraimi is actively engaged in the eradication of the invasive ghaf (mesquite) trees from across the governorate.

Nasser bin Ali al Marshoudi, Director General of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources in Buraimi, highlighted the department’s relentless efforts in conducting extensive campaigns and camps aimed at containing the proliferation of these trees and ultimately eradicating them.

Marshoudi reported an overall achievement rate of 97% in this campaign, covering a targeted area of over 38540 hectares across the governorate.

He underscored the success achieved in eliminating the mesquite trees in the wilayats of Mahdha and Sunaina, with the current focus directed towards the wilayat of Buraimi, particularly the Hafeet area.

To expedite the completion of the campaign, the directorate has devised a comprehensive time plan in collaboration with both government and private entities within the governorate.

Additionally, the project has been bolstered with specialised equipment and machinery, with support from national workforce.
