A’Suwaiq Port emerges as a vital route for regional food supplies

A’Suwaiq: The Port of A’Suwaiq in the Governorate of North Al Batinah assumes great significance due to its strategic location between the Governorate of Muscat and the Port of Sohar, in addition to its vicinity to Khazaen Dry Port.

The Port of A’Suwaiq serves as a vital passage for foodstuff and other commodities exchange between regional markets in the Indian Peninsula and the Horn of Africa.

It facilitates import, export and reexport of all goods, besides expediting the handling of general cargo, TEUs and refrigerated containers.

Eng. Said Salim Al Hinai, Manager of Marafi’ Company at A’Suwaiq Port, said that, over the first six months of 2022, the multipurpose hub received 290 commercial vessels, loaded with 400,000 tonnes of general commodities and 1,670 cool containers (of fruits and vegetables).

He added that the port targets foodstuffs, steel, cement, livestock and ceramics.

During the past few years, the port saw active container traffic, thanks to efforts undertaken by ASYAD (Oman’s global integrated logistics service provider) to improve the quality of services and training of operating personnel, said Al Hinai in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA).
