Challenges and obstacles in food safety discussed

Muscat: Oman Sustainable Food Safety and Quality Management Conference kicked off virtually on Tuesday. The two-day event is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The conference comes as per the activities of the Food Safety Week. The conference was opened under the auspices of Dr Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. Eng. Ya'qoub Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Fisheries said that the conference targets upgrading the level of food safety and quality control, as well as optimal utilisation of resources and exchanging various relevant knowledge, expertise, practical and scientific experiences at local, regional and international levels. The conference aims at upgrading food safety level in Oman in accordance with international standards targeting quality control and ensuring the safety of producing, processing, selling, distributing, and showcasing various foodstuff. Further, the conference addressed food processing in terms of safety and quality, food safety management within the supply chain from storing down to logistics. It also evaluated the pasteurised milk validity in Oman. The fair also discussed food provided at basic schools with emphasis laid on food value (two-year case study).
