Municipality focuses on food safety among vendors in Dhofar

Muscat – Dhofar Municipality is taking measures to raise awareness on food safety among mobile food vendors during khareef season.

A two-day workshop started on Monday to address key issues such as food hygiene hazards, safety conditions and equipment, waste management standards, pest control and more.

The primary objective of the initiative is to promote food hygiene among mobile food vendors to ensure the well-being of consumers.

In addition, Dhofar Municipality has launched a campaign to monitor food preparation electronically in restaurants, cafes, bakeries and commercial kitchens. As part of the first phase of the campaign, these establishments are required to instal high-definition surveillance cameras (CCTVs) in their food preparation areas.

To enhance transparency, a television screen of minimum 32 inch should be placed in the dining hall, enabling customers to observe real-time food and beverage preparation. This campaign aims to reduce violations, improve health control measures, and monitor the performance of staff members, ultimately guaranteeing the safety of visitors and ensuring overall food safety standards are met.

Additionally, the municipality recently introduced a competition for mobile food vendors, offering prizes worth RO6,000.
