Oman registers impressive growth in food consumption

MUSCAT: There has been a compound annual growth (CAGR) of 4.6 per cent in food consumption in Oman, according to the forthcoming Oman AgroFood Expo and Conference organisers, who cited the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR).Oman's agriculture sector, according to sources, has an investment opportunity of RO 320 million amid RO 4.8 billion in food imports, besides ongoing infrastructure development of fisheries and aquaculture at RO 1.3 billion.This key annual gathering, the 5th Oman AgroFood Exhibition and Conference, to be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources from December 4 to 6 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, will bring together government decision-makers, international thought-leaders, regional trail-blazers and innovative technology and solution providers to transform the sector and make the Sultanate of Oman's ambitious vision a reality."The Sultanate of Oman has ambitious plans to expand production and capabilities in agriculture and fisheries and to build up the sector as a contributor to economic growth," a spokesperson from the ministry said.Agricultural modernisation and rural farm development are the key pillars
