Symposium on date harvesting highlights opportunities during ‘tabseel’ season

Muscat – Nakheel Oman Development Company hosted a symposium titled ‘Investment Opportunities in the Tabseel Industry in Oman’ in Bidiyah, North Sharqiyah on Sunday.

The symposium took place during the activities of the ongoing tabseel season or date harvesting in Oman.

The aim of the symposium was to explore modern marketing channels and facilitate the purchasing process of date crops from farmers. Various institutions from the public and private sectors participated in the event.

Dr Ali al Araimi, CEO of Nakheel Oman Development Company, emphasised the importance of facilitating the tabseel season and collaborating with innovators, researchers, and small and medium enterprises involved in manufacturing products derived from the harvesting process.

The symposium featured six working papers, including topics such as Oman’s experience in date production and marketing, empowering agricultural projects, and scientific research in tabseel-related manufacturing industries.

The discussions resulted in several recommendations, including enabling Omani private sector companies to utilise tabseel products for food manufacturing and other purposes, as well as focusing on marketing, promotion and ensuring food security.

The date harvest season, also called jidad, starts in June and continues till September, depending on the type of palm tree and the method of harvesting.
