Ministry purchases 816 tonnes dates to support farmers – The Peninsula Qatar

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality represented by the Department of Agricultural Affairs has completed the project of purchasing and receiving local dates from registered date-producing farms for 2021 agricultural season. The Ministry received 816 tonnes of dates from 76 farms for this year.

This project, which began in 2006 with allocation of QR10m annually for buying dates from local farms, comes within the framework of the keenness of the Ministry of Municipality represented by the Department of Agricultural Affairs to support farmers by diversifying marketing outlets for the local agricultural product, especially local dates of all kinds.

This project is considered one of the most important marketing outlets, in addition to other outlets such as holding annual festivals and events for dates, whether local or international, for encouraging local farmers to develop their production in terms of quantity and quality and raising the production efficiency of this vital product.

The Department of Agricultural Affairs has received the dates through a specialised technical team to inspect the dates and receive the good ones that comply with all technical conditions and specifications, in cooperation with one of the local factories specialised in the field of manufacturing and packing dates.
