Egypt provides medical services to over 1,500 South Sudanese citizens

Egypt has provided medical services and disbursed medicines for up to 1,822 citizens in South Sudan in a medical convoy Cairo sent to the capital Juba to support the country's healthcare sector.

According to a statement by the health ministry on Monday, the convoy included a five-tonne aid shipment of surgical supplies and equipment.

The statement added that another aid shipment carrying drugs for Hepatitis B and C has been sent to South Sudan.

The aid is part of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's initiative to treat 100 million Africans.

The initiative first launched domestically under the name 100 Million Health, from October 2018 until April 2019, and has since been extended to other African countries.

El-Sisi has directed Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed to provide all necessary medical support to South Sudan.

In August, Zayed met with her South Sudanese counterpart Elizabeth Achuei in Juba, where they toured several medical centres in the capital, including the Egyptian Kidney and Dialysis Centre and the Juba Teaching Hospital.

Both ministers discussed developing and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the medical sector.
