Six Egyptian people referred to criminal court for raping girl – Egypttoday

CAIRO - 26 July 2020: The PublicProsecution has referred six defendantsto criminal court, including four men and two women on charges of kidnapping and raping Menna Abdel Aziz, known as Aya.

The four men and two women are also accused of blackmailing the girl after they had access to disgraceful information about her published on the internet. The gang threatened to make that information public.

They also face charges of beating her and destroying her cell phone, as well as using illegal drugs. They admitted to all the crimes, and evidence was included in the forensic report.

The PublicProsecution referred one of the accused to a criminal trial before the Children's Court.

It is noteworthy that Public Prosecutor Hamada al-Sawy had issued a decision in January to establish the Child Protection Bureau in the Judicial Inspection Department of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

This comes within the framework of the role the Public Prosecution plays to protect society. This decision aims at eliminating all phenomena that threaten the security and safety of the Egyptian child, whether he/she is a victim, a perpetrator or a witness, and at eliminating the phenomenon of children's disappearance.
