Tax credits might help to diversify Broadway credits.



In response to recent calls to increase the representation of minorities on the Great White Way, the Broadway League national trade association announced last month that it would commission a survey of diversity in the theatre industry, hire someone to manage its diversity and inclusion efforts, and offer anti-racism training programs to members. "We have accepted the responsibility to insure that we change the industry through our members,“ stated its president, Charlotte St. Martin. "We have to change, and we will change,“ she promised.



Less than 30 percent of all the Broadway performers on stage in a recent season were members of minority groups, and representation among Latino performers has reportedly fallen to less than three percent. In addition, only about 10 percent of all the shows scheduled to open on Broadway during the 2020 season had more than two members of minority groups on their principal creative and design teams.
