Sheikh Ahmed backs DEWA & Hassyan deal to convert Hassyan Power Complex

The Chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum has welcomed the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s decision to partner with Hassyan Energy Company, to convert the 2,400MW Hassyan Power Complex in Dubai from clean coal to natural gas.

As an ultra-supercritical (USC) power plant project, Hassyan Energy is a key project of Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which is aimed at producing environment-friendly energy. The program aims to produce 25 percent of energy from solar power, 7 percent from nuclear power, 7 percent from clean coal, and the remaining 61% from gas by 2030.

The project is a joint venture between ACWA Power Harbin Holding Company with a 49 percent share and Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) with a 51 percent share.

Sheikh Ahmed stated that, “This step supports Dubai’s energy supply security by diversifying the energy mix through the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai’s carbon neutrality strategy 2050 to provide 100 percent of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
