Texans Driving to Neighbor States for Abortions, Prompting Worries of Overwhelming Clinics

Since the implementation of a new abortion law in Texas two weeks ago, women are traveling hundreds of miles to neighboring states where officials fear clinics will be swamped by patients seeking care.

New court filings are already demonstrating the effect of the nation's most stringent law on the procedure. The Biden administration asked a federal court in Austin on Tuesday for an emergency halt on the measure, Senate Bill 8.

Within one clinic system for women's health in Texas, more than 100 patients were turned away since the beginning of the month. The provider performed more than 9,000 abortions in 2020.
