Hijjawi predicts Jordan’s PCR positivity rate – Roya News English

Member of the National Committee for Epidemics, Bassam Hijjawi, said Sunday on Jeish FM radio that Jordan is 'hovering around the peak' of the current COVID-19 outbreak.

He said he expects that the percentage of positive PCR tests will drop to five percent within six to eight weeks.

Hijjawi stressed that for positivity rates to drop, a commitment to public safety measures and defense orders must be taken by citizens. 

"This wave cost us 56,000 cases and about 673 deaths per week," said Hijjawai, noting that Jordan did not witness this in the first wave.

Hijjawi pointed out that some countries have even entered a third wave, meaning that non-compliance leads to the entry into another larger and more fatal wave than the one before.

He added that although coronavirus numbers in the Kingdom are stabilizing, no one can determine if we have reached the peak of the COVID-19 wave yet.

Hijjawi added that Jordan does not need a long total lockdown at the moment. However, what is required is a refined package of measures ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan, noting that it remains the responsibility of citizens to abide and commit to public health measures.

"We need more precise and organized procedures during Ramadan
