How Leah Lamarr Leveraged Clubhouse Comedy Into Major Career Boost

(Leah Lamarr photo by Emilynn Rose) It's been quite a year for Leah Lamarr, a Los Angeles-based comedian and actress who joined the then-private online audio app Clubhouse in mid-pandemic last December, when performing in person seemed like A Very Bad Idea. Clubhouse itself was very much living up to its name, a still-in-beta and very exclusive center of conversations featuring many Silicon Valley notables, but only available on iOS mobile devices, and only if you knew somebody who could slide you a beta-testing invite. Fast forward a year, and Lamarr has become proprietor of one of the biggest comedy "clubs" on Clubhouse, featuring a daily gathering of the comedy tribes called Afternoon Delight, and several other weekly shows. Lamarr has hosted notables such as Oprah Winfrey on the show, which has led to gigs like headlining at the New York Comedy Festival alongside Bill Burr, Nick Kroll, and Colin Quinn. And big-name comics such as Dane Cook, Chris Redd and Erik Griffin have hired her to be the opening act in their live appearances. Lamarr's Clubhouse presence even led to a job co-hosting an iHeartRadio weekly podcast called Real Time Crime, the first such deal for a Clubhouse creator.
