Will new appraisal mode improve govt services?



Muscat – The Ministry of Labour (MoL) rolled out a new programme called Individual Performance Measurement and Institutional Proficiency System (Ejada) – an appraisal system – starting on Sunday covering 175,000 employees in 57 state units.

According to MoL, it has 565 trainers to develop job plans in government institutions to achieve the goals of the appraisal system and raise performance of employees. It organised 2,312 training workshops that benefited more than 130,000 employees.

“The programme aims to improve the quality of services provided to citizens, and enhance the community’s confidence in the government’s capabilities, in addition to setting employees’ duties and responsibilities in line with Oman Vision 2040,” Abdulaziz Darwish al Zadjali, assistant director of communications at MoL, told Muscat Daily.

Zadjali informed that evaluation in the new system will be done quarterly, half-yearly and annually. “Productivity will be measured electronically based on objectives and key results employing a well-defined methodology; it will be transparent and fair. Employees will be evaluated as per given assignments and their delivery,” he said.

The new system will not punish under-performing employees, but will work to raise their efficiency, develop their capabilities, and address the challenges they face. “Specifically, the system will give every employee a chance
