KSA: Saudi and UK sign partnership deal – Gulf Digital News

DUBAI: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed yesterday with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson the conflict in Ukraine and other regional and international issues, Saudi Press agency SPA said.

Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman also attended the meeting in Riyadh, SPA said, adding that Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a strategic partnership council on the occasion of the visit.

Johnson, who was in the UAE earlier yesterday, is on a visit to the Gulf as part of efforts to secure more oil supplies and increase pressure on President Vladimir Putin over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Johnson said the visit was also aimed at increasing investment in UK green energy, including the announcement of £1 billion ($1.3bn) from Saudi Arabia’s alfanar group for a project to produce sustainable aviation fuel from waste.

“It’s not just a question of looking at the OPEC countries and what they can do to increase supply, though that is important,” Johnson told British media.

Johnson said before leaving that the impact of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “brutal and unprovoked” assault will be felt far beyond Europe.
