Abu Dhabi summit stresses cultural innovation, resilience

ABU DHABI - Abu Dhabi's culture and tourism department (DCT) is gearing up for its fourth annual Culture Summit, which will this year focus on cultural economy in the post-COVID-19 era.

The virtual event, scheduled for March 8-10, will host leaders in cultural heritage, art, media, public policy and technology for a series of keynote speeches, performances, film screenings, and panel talks. The event will be accessible to the public through Abu Dhabi's Culture Summit's website.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, told The National that “the global challenges of the past year have truly demonstrated the vital power of culture to improve our personal and collective well-being. Yet, cultural institutions worldwide continue to struggle to achieve funding structures to continue operating.”

He added, “It is now more important than ever to shed light on the critical role that the culture sector plays as an essential driver of sustainable economic and social development.”

In addition to exploring ways to improve creative ecosystems and cultural life following the global pandemic, the summit will look at the socioeconomic advantages of cultural and creative industries and provide a platform for policy development and knowledge exchange.
