Dubai Maritime City Authority succeeds in floating grounded container ship

The Dubai Maritime City Authority of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has succeeded in floating grounded “THORSWIND” container ship near Palm Deira in Dubai.

Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority of PCFC, stated that the Authority received news that the container ship “THORSWIND” had fallen adding that emergency meetings were held with relevant authorities in the public and private sectors to speed up the refloating of the container ship, in collaboration with Port Rashid.

The Executive Director further elaborated that the Dubai Maritime City Authority has contacted several concerned authorities and institutions to ensure navigation safety and protection of the marine environment. The authority oversaw the process of refloating the ship without reporting injuries, leaks, or side effects on maritime traffic in the emirate’s waters.

Sheikh Saeed expressed his sincere gratitude to the Dubai Maritime City Authority team and all other special teams for their swift action in the resolution of the situation after the container ship was reported grounding until competent rescue teams succeeded in re-floating it and resuming the journey.
