Omani stall in Expo 2020 promotes SMEs

Muscat – A stall in Oman Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is making a mark for its efforts to promote Omani handicrafts and small-scale industries. Called Metjar Laban, the concept is the brainchild of Nada Bassam, chief executive officer of Taiseer Platform – Omade.

“I have always endeavoured to make Omani products available globally. I started scouting for the right businesses and talents to showcase two years ago,” Nada said.

The selection on display has three categories – History, Environment and Culture. Metjar Laban puts the spotlight on SMEs, and handicraft industries of urban and rural women from all around the country.

According to Nada, in the last one year, her team has evaluated over 460 SMEs. “In a span of six months at the expo, we aim to display more than 1,500 products from companies from all corners of country. We also help package the products attractively.”

The products on display change every two weeks. However, some items are constant owing to popularity and quality.

“The exposure Metjar Laban gives SMEs will encourage more businesses and investments in the country,” Nada said.
