‘Am I entitled to an end-of-service gratuity as an expatriate contractor?’ – The National

Should I receive an end-of-service gratuity as an expatriate contractor? I have been seconded into a major company in the Northern Emirates via a supply firm that pays my salary and which invoices the UAE company each month. It is a simple day rate contract that I signed with the supply company for each day that I worked. The supply company has a service agreement with the other company. I have decided to stop and retire after three years and four months of service. My simple contract states that the lump sum daily rate is inclusive of all costs and the end-of-service gratuity.

I signed it without knowing that the gratuity is compulsory after one full year of service. Can I request this benefit from the supply firm and ask them to invoice the other company for my last month? It seems strange they are allowed to offer a contract with no provision
