Mini airports for drones to come up across Dubai thanks to new law

The new law seeks to help Dubai promote itself as a hub for drone manufacturing, smart transportation and innovation.





A new law regulating the operations of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) issued on Saturday will help Dubai build its 'Sky Dome' project. The Dubai Sky Dome aims to transform the emirate into a virtual airspace infrastructure for UAV systems that connects places and buildings through landing pads and miniature airports across the city.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued Law No. (4) of 2020 to reduce the risks associated with drone activity and specifies the duties and responsibilities of relevant authorities. The new law seeks to help Dubai promote itself as a hub for drone manufacturing, smart transportation and innovation in the sector; and enable public and private entities to use drones and provide related services. It facilitates the development of an integrated framework for licensing and issuing certificates, permits, NOCs, and inspection services related to drone systems, and a legal system for investigating accidents and incidents.
