Sharjah instals 1,800 smart electricity meters

UAE - Some 1,800 new smart meters have been installed across Sharjah in August, as the emirate's electricity and water authority continues its smart transformation project and tech development. Considered to be the most accurate in the world, these meters ensure that residents get error-free bills every month. Currently, there are more than 200,000 smart meters across the neighbourhoods in Sharjah. Rashid Al Leem, chairman of the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa), said smart meters can also detect any form of tampering. Their life span is between 15 and 20 years and, in terms of production cost, they are cheaper than mechanical meters. Inside Sewa's meter laboratory, the latest devices are also in use. Portable high-tech tools are also used to check meters on site. Omar Al Zarouni, who
