Social media decry University of Bahrain’s decision to allow only one person to escort graduates | THE DAILY …

A decision by the University of Bahrain to allow only one person to escort students, instead of two, during this year’s graduation ceremony, deemed the largest, has sparked angry protests online.

Many tweeted their protest, disappointment and anger at receiving an invitation for a single person to accompany them during their graduation ceremony.

More than 11,000 graduated students from the 2017 to 2021 batches are to be hooded on stage in this year’s ceremony, held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

That is huge by any standard. Such a decision, some said, limiting the number of people who could come with a graduate, should have been taken considering the sheer number of graduates and limited capacity of the place.

However, that argument failed to bring any solace to the broken hearts, with a graduate asking, “So should we draw lots between father and mother to attend the ceremony? “After all this effort and exhaustion in studying, for our parents, to see their smile, the university is asking us to bring only one of them.”
