MTCIT warns legal measures against errant school bus drivers

Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has urged all road transport operators, including school buses, to follow the regulations under the Land Transport Law.

A statement issued by MTCIT said, ‘The ministry calls on operators of land transport, especially passenger buses and student transport, to adhere to the requirements of passenger safety, according to the executive regulations of the Land Transport Law. The ministry will take legal measures against violators.’

This follows an incident of a student falling from a running school bus belonging to a school under the Directorate of Education in Dakhliyah on February 27.

Citizens and experts called for tougher measures in the sultanate after a video of the mishap went viral on social media.

A statement issued by the governorate’s Directorate General of Education said it was taking measures in cooperation with the relevant authorities to ensure such incidents didn’t repeat and called on school bus drivers to ensure the safety of students.

Royal Oman Police arrested the school bus driver following the incident on February 27 and legal procedures were completed against him.
