National robotics contest begins; winners to qualify for championship in USA

Ministry of Education started the National Robotics Competition on Monday, a step towards promoting robotics and AI among students.Muscat – The Ministry of Education, through its Department of Innovation and Scientific Olympiads, started the National Robotics Competition on Monday, a step towards promoting robotics and artificial intelligence among students in the sultanate.

Forty students, grouped into ten teams from ten educational directorates across various governorates, are participating setting the stage for intense competition and innovation.

The nationwide competition serves as the qualifying round for the upcoming VEX Robotics World Championship in the United States of America.

It challenges students in several robotic skills, notably the ‘Driving Skills Challenge’, where participants remotely control robots to collect coloured cubes within a 60-second timeframe. The scoring system is meticulously designed, taking into account the number of cubes collected, the colour of the cubes and adherence to specific rules.

Another highlight of the competition is the ‘Programming Challenge Match’, where robots operate under autonomous control for 60 seconds. Team scores are determined following a comprehensive set of rules, showcasing participants’ programming prowess and strategy.

Introduction of the competition by the Ministry of Education reflects its commitment to enriching the educational landscape with diverse contests in robotics and artificial intelligence.
