Qatar wins 7 medals in 8th Gulf Mathematical, Physics Olympiad – The Peninsula

A Qatari team won two silver and five bronze medals in the 8th Gulf Mathematical Olympiad (GMO 2022) and the 4th Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO 2022) held in Saudi Arabia from March 13 to 17, 2022, with the participation of six Gulf states.

Students from Qatar School of Science and Technology: Nasser Al Houri and Hamad Al Hur received two silver medals; Abdullah Al Janahi received a bronze medal in the Fourth Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO 2022); while Abdullah Al Bader, Nayef Al Jilani, and Faisal Al Shammari received a bronze medal; and Maryam Al Mansour, from DeBakey High School, received a bronze medal (GMO 2022).

The Qatari team (four students in the Physics Olympiad and six students in the Math Olympiad) has been training since January, after being chosen based on their previous participation in international competitions and training camps. The team was supervised by the Science and Mathematics Departments in the Guidance Department of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with the participation of local and international trainers.
