Al-Azhar Grand Imam accepts invitation to Azerbaijan’s COP29 – Egypt Today

CAIRO - 16 May 2024: Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb received an invitation from the president of Azerbaijan to visit the country and attend COP29.

 

Azerbaijani ambassador to Cairo Alkhan Polukhov handed over the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev to Al-Tayeb to visit the capital Baku, and to participate in the summit of representatives of different religions and religious institutions on climate change.

 

Polukhov also said his country looks forward to cooperation with Al-Azhar in the field of interfaith dialogue. 

 

The Grand Imam thanked Azerbaijan for the invitation, hoping that COP29 will produce decisions binding on the major economic powers and fair to developing countries, which are most affected by the repercussions of climate change.
