Jordan welcomes US administration’s decision to resume financial aid to UNRWA – Roya News English

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, welcomed Friday the US administration’s decision to resume financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which faces a large financial deficit. Safadi stressed that the financial support announced by the US will help the agency in overcoming its financial crisis and help it provide its vital services, which include education, health services and relief aid to more than five million Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation. Safadi said that the Kingdom highly appreciates the US decision and considers it an important and positive step that will have a significant impact on the agency's ability to meet the humanitarian, educational and health needs of the refugees, especially at this time when the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the financial pressures on the agency.   Wednesday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that his country had decided to renew financial support to UNRWA, which was suspended in September 2018 by the Trump administration, and to allocate $ 150 million to the agency. more...
