(Photo Feature) ALGIERS, Dec 16 (KUNA) -- Dar Aziza is a 16th-century Moorish palace located in the Casbah of Algiers, exactly at the Martyrs' Public Square.

The palace has been transformed into a museum, classified by the UNESCO as part of the human race heritage, with its eye-catching old ornamentations as well as Islamic art shapes.

During the French mandate, the palace was transformed into a military barracks.

Between 1838 and 1916, it was granted to bishops. After Algeria restored national sovereignty in 1962, the palace became headquarters of the ministry of tourism, museums and relics.

In 1981, it was transformed into headquarters of the "Al-Thaqafa" magazine and then into the main building of the National Diwan.

Its construction and naming date back to the Ottoman influence, when the ruler decided to build it and call it after his daughter Aziza -- during the 16th century. (end) mr.rk
