MERA to invest RO15mn from endowment funds

Muscat – The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA), in cooperation with the Imam Jabir bin Zaid Waqf Foundation, organised the second endowment forum under the theme of ‘Sustainability and Development’ on Sunday.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Abdulsalam Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority.

During the forum, H E Dr Wa’il bin Saif bin Salim al Harrasi, MERA Undersecretary, said, “The ministry will invest RO15mn from endowment funds to double the funds and interest compared to previous years. The Imam Jabir bin Zaid Waqf Foundation is a new institution for endowment in the sultanate.”

The forum aimed to enhance investments in the endowments sector and review successful experiences locally and regionally, while enhancing awareness on the endowments sector in the sultanate.

Murshidi said, “The forum is an opportunity for the endowments sector to keep abreast of modern investment tools and governance of these, and to benefit from the experiences of countries in this field.”

Sheikh Khalil bin Ahmed al Khalili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Imam Jabir bin Zaid Endowment Foundation, informed that the foundation is working on initiatives that advance the charity sector in the sultanate, while the forum aims to reveal market
