Team working to mitigate shortage of onions at Oman market

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has formed a field team which is working with merchants at the Al Mawaleh Central Market for Vegetables and Fruits to seek alternative sources of onions to meet demand as quickly as possible.The Oman News Agency (ONA) reported, "A tropical condition on the Indian peninsula coastline has affected the transport of onions which led to a shortage at the market. The Ministry is coordinating with exporters and agricultural quarantine outlets at ports and customs to facilitate passage of shipments and arrange direct supply to the market.""These efforts resulted in the provision of 2,200 tons of Indian, Pakistani, Iranian and Egyptian onions, which led to the stability of the flow of the commodity in
