UAE: Sheikh Mohammed shares clearest-ever picture taken of Mars’ moon Deimos, points to planetary origin

Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s Hope Probe, which was launched as part of the Emirates Mars Mission, has captured the clearest-ever image of Mars' moon Deimos The image has not only provided scientists with new insights about the moon but also challenges existing theories about its origin. Tweeting on the occassion today, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said the Hope Probe has refuted the theory that Deimos is an outer asteroid captured in Martian orbit. Instead, the probe's instruments and team have provided evidence that the moon was mostly part of the planet Mars and separated from it millions of years ago, similar to how the moon of Earth was once part of the planet and later separated. The new findings have been lauded by Sheikh Mohammed, who expressed his pride in the young scientists who were part of the mission and the contribution they have made to the march of human knowledge.
