India-Oman FTA likely to be inked in Jan 2024

Negotiations for the proposed FTA between India and Oman are moving at a fast pace and the agreement is likely to be signed in January 2024.Muscat – Negotiations for the proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between India and Oman are moving at a fast pace and the agreement is likely to be signed in January 2024, a senior Indian government official has stated, Indian media reported.

Earlier this month, India and Oman concluded the second round of talks in Muscat for the FTA which is officially dubbed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

“There is very good progress with Oman and both sides are very eager to conclude this deal. It may be signed in January 2024,” the official said, as reported by the leading Indian news agency PTI.

According to Indian media reports, negotiations on the text of most of the chapters of CEPA have been concluded by both sides.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated earlier this month that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik have given a strong push to conclude the agreement as early as possible.
