‎Saudi merchandise imports surge 17% to SAR 62.2 bln in December 2022

Saudi Arabia’s merchandise imports surged by 17% year-on-year (YoY) in December 2022 to SAR 62.2 billion, according to data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

Imports fell by SAR 2.42 billion, or 4%, month-on-month (MoM), as follows:

The YoY increase in the Kingdom’s imports in December 2022 was driven by a SAR 2.61 billion, or 33%, rise in its vehicles, aircraft, vessels and associated transport equipment. Alongside further gains in imports of several other segments, machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment; parts thereof added SAR 2.48 billion, or 21%, YoY.

China topped the list of major exporters to the Kingdom with SAR 13.7 billion, accounting for 22% of the total value of imports in December.

The US and the UAE took the second and third positions, at 10% and 7%, respectively.

The top 10 exporters to Saudi Arabia accounted for 64.6%, or SAR 40.2 billion, of the Kingdom's total imports in December.
