Egypt affirms support to UN efforts to provide coronavirus vaccine as ‘global good’

Egypt affirmed its support to efforts by the United Nations (UN) in providing the coronavirus vaccine as a "global good“, its permanent representative to the UN, Mohamed Edrees said.

Edrees urged during his participation at the International Universal Health Coverage Day that the World Health Organization (WHO) is to coordinate with vaccine producers to ensure that it is supplied to developing countries without any discrimination.

He also called on WHO to invest in health systems globally to build a healthy and safe future.

Edrees pointed at Egypt's pledge to offer comprehensive healthcare to all under a national strategy in parallel with efforts to combat the spread of the pandemic with in the country.

Egypt has implemented its '100 Million' health initiative, which aims to eliminate the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and see the early detection of noncommunicable diseases before the pandemic, he said stressing Cairo's commitment to continue providing healthcare to patients of Hepatitis C and others during the pandemic.
